ERA-NET SIINN Announces Third Transnational Call for Joint European and Transatlantic Research on Nanosafety

Third Call for proposals of SIINN has been opened on 1st October 2014, closing date for applications is 16th January 2015.

The commercial application of products based on manufactured nanomaterials (MNM) is increasing rapidly, but the safety of MNMs still represents a barrier to their wide use. The ERA-NET “SIINN” (Safe Implementation of Innovative Nanoscience and Nanotechnology) aims at developing a consolidated framework to address nano-related risks and the management of these risks for humans and the environment by investigating the toxicological behaviour of NMs.

SIINN is supported by the European Commission and brings together ministries and funding agencies from Austria, the Wallonia Region (Belgium), France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, the Veneto Region (Italy), the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, the Madrid Region, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The Jülich Project Management Agency (PtJ, Germany) is coordinating the ERA-NET.

The third SIINN Call for proposals has been opened on 1st of October 2014. For this call, seven European funding agencies (from Austria, Belgium (French-speaking community), Germany, Region Nord-Pas de Calais (France), Portugal, Romania and Spain) and three US funding agencies have together allocated over 6.1 million Euros to fund joint transnational research projects. Project partners will be funded by their national or regional funding organizations according to standard national or regional procedures. The call is targeted at universities, research institutes and companies who can contribute to the goals of SIINN. Proposal applications must be submitted by the 16th January 2015, 12.00 CET (07.00 am Washington time).

Emphasis will be put on proposals adressing industrially relevant environmental, health and safety (EHS) aspects of nanoscale technologies, including exposure assessment, toxicity mechanisms and impacts of MNMs on human health and environment.
More information about the ERA-NET and the call can be found on the SIINN website www.siinn.eu.
