The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is the largest non-university research organisation in
Austria. The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is a limited company (GmbH) in accordance with
Austrian law. The Republic of Austria (through the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and
Technology) has a share of 50.46%, while the Federation of Austrian Industries owns 49.54%. The
AIT intends to strategically position itself on the international research market as a premier
research institute with a European format, while also consolidating Austria's position as a business
location internationally. There are five specialised departments researching the key infrastructure
issues of the future: The Mobility, Energy, Health & Environment, Safety & Security, Foresight
Policy & Development departments develop technological innovations, methods and solutions for
industry and customers from public institutions.
