Created 2003, the Fundación madrimasd para el Conocimiento (from hereon madri+d) was established under the motion of the Government Council of the Community of Madrid (General Directorate of Universities and Research, DGUI) to manage and develop some of the programmes included in the Madrid R&D Regional Plan.
Madri+d is the coordinating member of the regional innovation network madri+d, which aims at promoting/facilitating academic and business communities as part of the global action line established in the Regional R&D Plan. The network has 40 members, including RTD centres, Universities, Trade and industry associations, etc. madri+d plays an active role in the network coordination. In 2007 madri+d was awarded the Prize of the Innovating Regions of Europe Network for Regional Innovation Schemes madri+d is a non-profit organisation with three major units related to the following fields:
1) European Research Area,
2) Knowledge Transfer and
3) Technology-based Entrepreneurship.
Madri+d has a staff of 14 experts, mainly based in Madrid, with an office in Brussels, acting innarrow contact with the Madrid Region R&D system (Universities, Public Research institutions and Private sector) and the Community of Madrid Regional Administration (DGUI)
